The South African Police Service (SAPS) has lodged a complaint against the Democratic Alliance (DA)'s election advertisement aired by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and other news media.

Like the SABC, the SAPS claims the television advert may incite violence.

The SABC had banned the DA's radio and TV adverts, but they were put back on air after an Independent Communications Authority of South Africa's (Icasa) hearing.

Icasa spokesperson, Paseka Maleka, says the complaint has been referred to the Complaints and Compliance Committee.

“There has been a complaint that has been submitted to the Complaints and Compliance Committee by the SAPS against the DA advertisement. So that complain has been referred to the DA for a response and then the matter will be taken up as soon as the response has come through,” says Maleka.
