SARS Officials confirmed that 80 Kgs of Cocaine was seized as it was being smuggled into the country via the Beit Bridge Border Post.

The Cocaine was valued at about R23 million and is South Africa's single biggest seizure of the drug.

The cocaine was contained in 100 A4 sized parcels in the cabin of a truck that was enroute from Malawi to South Africa.

The truck was identified for closer searches and was moved out of the processing queue to be checked.  On inspection,  customs officials found bags which the driver claimed to be his clothes.

Initial inspections indicated that the parcel contained a white powder.   After full search the team uncovered the rest of the parcels.  After chemical testing the substance was confirmed to be Cocaine.

The driver was immediately arrested and the truck seized.   The driver will be appearing in court soon.
