Nongoma police acted swiftly when they were alerted to a robbery at a local supermarket yesterday. On 2 October 2014 at 10:30, where three unknown armed men allegedly stormed into the cash office and held the employees at gunpoint shortly after security guards deposited pension money. The men made-off with an undisclosed amount of cash. No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained during the robbery. Moments later, police arrested two men aged 31 and 39. The third managed to flee and escaped arrest.
The cash was not recovered however the suspects getaway vehicle was seized as well as an unlicensed firearm. One of the suspects was shot and injured by police when he allegedly opened fire on them. He was taken to hospital for medical attention under police guard. Both men will be charged and will appear at the Nongoma Magistrates Court on 6 October 2014. The search for the outstanding suspect is on-going.  
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Ngobeni commended Nongoma police for swiftly responding to the robbery and arresting the suspects. “We are working tirelessly to apprehend the outstanding suspect and we are confident that we will arrest him soon,” she said.
