Information received from Provincial Commissioner of KZN, Lt Gen Ngobeni, states that SAPS first received a report of a murder of a 40 year old woman, identified as Jabu Cele (Admin Clerk at Crime Intelligence at Port Shepstone) at 2am on Monday 21/10/2013. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds to her body. A murder docket was opened at Southport police station.

On the same day at about 7.30am, members of SouthPort SAPS became suspicious after Warrant Officer Linda Shange (49) did not report for duty at the station. Phone calls to his cell went unanswered. When colleagues went to his home, in the area, they found the bodies of his wife Fikile (47) and sons Snakekelo (10) and Snakhokonke (15). They had been shot.

W/O Shange was also at the house, alive but with gunshot wounds to his body. His SAPS issued Firearm was found lying next to him. He, however, died on his way to hospital. It is alleged that the police officer had an argument with his family and allegedly shot and killed them before turning the gun on himself.

Three counts of murder and an inquest docket were opened at Southport police station for further investigation.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in the killing of W/O Shange's family and Ms Cele
