 Police at Mtubatuba arrested five men aged between 26 and 47 after a 20-year-old male was killed at Nkanini. On Monday, 15 September 2014 at 22:00, the deceased was allegedly chased by a group of men at Ezwenelisha and he was later found dead at Nkanini. He was allegedly assaulted and burnt to death. Mtubatuba police were alerted after incident and when they arrived at the scene, they discovered that the deceased was assaulted and burnt. The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage. A case of murder was opened for investigation and five suspects were swiftly arrested. They will be charged for murder and are expected to appear in Mtubatuba Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni highly praised Mtubatuba police for swiftly responding to the incident and arresting the suspects who were responsible for the brutal murder. “We will ensure that these men are prosecuted and sent to prison where they belong. Such acts of violence are totally unacceptable and there can be no reason to justify such savagery,” she said.
