Illegal poacher shot and killed by ranger at Thula Thula Game Range

Yesterday, 5 November 2013 about 09:00, the Ntambanana police arrested five suspects aged between 25 and 40. The members received information about the shooting at Thula Thula game range; upon arrival at the scene they found a 40-year-old man already dead and a ranger still alive with gunshot wounds. It is alleged that the illegal poachers opened fire towards rangers and they reiterated fatally wounding one suspect.  The ranger was taken to hospital for medical attention but remain in stable condition.


The members seized a 303 assault rifle from the poachers and it was established that the firearms is licensed and belongs to the deceased father. The members proceeded to the deceased homestead and arrested the father for allowing a person to possess firearm without a license.  The suspects will be appearing tomorrow, 7 November 2013 in the Ngwelezane Magistrates Court on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm. The murder case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
