Started by , Fri Apr 25, 2014 10:23 wishes to place on record our sincere congratulations to Colonel Balram (Station Commander - Bayview SAPS),  Det Capt S Naidu (Detective Branch Commander - SAPS Bayview) and all other members involved in the arrest of the suspect who was in possession of 5 unlicenced firearms.   A significant breakthough and hopefully investigations will lead to further arrests.

A 28-year-old man, believed to be a member of a house robbery gang, was nabbed by dedicated members of the Chatsworth Crime Intelligence Unit, Durban Flying Squad and Bayview SAPS, yesterday.

According to police reports, the officers were investigating a case involving a suspect wanted for attempted murder. The attempted murder case was reported in the Bayview vicinity recently. Investigations led the officers to Smith Street in Durban, where the suspect was successfully apprehended. Provincial police spokesman, Cpt Thulani Zwane said, “During the investigation, officers found the suspect in possession of five unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well. Some of these firearms were stolen from Pinetown and in the Durban Central area. The suspect is believed to be part of a gang committing house robberies in the greater Durban area.”

He will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 facing charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the good work by the members. “The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country. Crime Intelligence members will work hard to try and link the suspect with other house robbery cases that were reported in Durban and surrounding areas,” said Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
